If you are running out of time to cover the topic of similarity of 3 dimensional shapes you might want to check out this activity.  I have used it for years.  Students build 5 different towers from centimeter grid paper and then collect data about the height, area of one face, and the volume.  Then comparing the data students look for patterns.  The visuals help the students understand the ratios they see in the charts.
